Field Guide № 01

Adventure Networks

A field manual, strange atlas, expedition console, and community toolkit.

The Network Map

Five nodes. Seven edges. One field note at a time.

People

The living web. Names, roles, capacities, and the quiet agreements that hold a group together. Before you map terrain, map trust.

Protocols

Six practices for signal, movement, exchange, and threshold.

Methodology

Seed. Traverse. Return. The loop that makes a practice.

Seed

Plant the intention. Name the question. Gather the people and the tools. A seed is small, specific, and alive with possibility.

Traverse

Walk the edge. Cross the threshold. Do the thing that cannot be done from the couch. Traverse is where the seed meets the soil.

Return

Come back. Tell what happened. Give the gift. Close the loop. Return is not the end; it is the compost for the next seed.

Templates

Copy, adapt, use. These are starting points, not scripts.

Glossary

Words that carry weight in this practice.

Node
A person, place, or practice that holds signal and can pass it on.
Edge
A walkable connection between two nodes. An edge is only real when someone travels it.
Signal
Anything that travels between nodes and changes them: a call, a tool, a story, a gesture.
Threshold
A boundary where the rules change. Crossed with intention, not by accident.
Steward
The person who holds a node in trust for the network, not for themselves.
Trace
What remains after a passage. Good trace is invisible or generous. Bad trace is extractive.
